[March 04, 2014] | I am announcing that I will seek re-election to the Georgia House of Representatives District 11. House District 11 covers parts of Gordon and Murray counties and all of Pickens. ??It has been a tremendous honor and privilege for me to represent the people of House District 11. I have enjoyed getting to know folks in the District from the Spring Place to Marble Hill and all areas in between. The miles I have put the on my red truck show I have worked hard to meet and listen to and be accessible to as many people as possible(since 2010-70,000 miles). I am always excited about the opportunity to meet new constituents, and to continue to provide a conservative, conscientious voice at the State Capitol.
During the past two legislative sessions, we have addressed a number of important measures dealing with illegal immigration, education, tax reform, criminal and juvenile justice reform. This session we are hard at work to put Georgia again in the position to be the best place to do business in the United States.
I have personally taken on the job of protecting and expanding your Second Amendment rights in our state by sponsoring two bills, HB 512 and HB 875 that are reasonable and effective. This was the most discussed issue I was asked about when ever we were campaigning for this House seat. I also sponsored the Health care Compact, which gives the states the ability to spend their Medicare dollars as they see fit.
I am a member of the Agriculture and Consumer Affairs committee, the K-12 Education Appropriations and Human Relations and Aging committees. I have also been entrusted to be the Vice Chairman of the Health and Human Services Committee.
It has also been rewarding for me to be an active part of lots of other legislation that continues to make Georgia a great place to live and to make Georgia a place job creators want to be.
I have been named an ACU Conservative by the American Conservative Union for the past two years and received high scores on legislative scorecards for Americans for Prosperity and the National Federation of Independent Businesses. I also have an A+ average from the Georgia Chamber of Commerce and an A+ average from the Georgia Parents Alliance, based on my work in the State House.
